Famous is a term which can be fluid or fleeting. Our standard for considering whether someone is famous is based on whether they have notoriety in their field and have been written about or have appeared in significant regional or national media.
While each person's faith is ultimately between that individual and God, our standard for determining whether a person is Catholic or not, is based solely on things they profess publicly, and whether those things comport with the teachings of the Catholic Church. There are many people who profess to be Catholic, while openly pronouncing positions and beliefs which run contrary to Catholic teaching. On this site we would not consider those people to be Catholic. This does not mean they are not Catholic, it only means we do not see them as a role model of the faith.
The reason we created this site was to give encouragement to people who might be concerned about practicing or professing their faith openly, in a school, work, or other public setting. This is a rational fear, especially in light of the virulent anti-Christian and anti-Catholic bigotry that permeates society today. The famous Catholics featured on this site are intended to provide inspiration for how one can be successful, even famous, and yet still practice and profess their Catholic faith unambiguously, and without fear.
